Sound insulation.

Electrical installations in sound insulation walls.

Good sound insulation is crucial to the quality of life at home and at work and is an important factor in determining value. According to a survey, 94 % consider good sound insulation to be important, 57 % consider it particularly important, and 82 % will not accept cost-cutting measures at the expense of sound insulation. Builders and planners need clear criteria and reliable solutions to implement sound insulation simply and in a way that protects them from liability.

Regulations and standards.

DIN 4109 defines minimum requirements for sound insulation in buildings, which are often insufficient to ensure comfort. For this reason, the more stringent requirements of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) 4100 are frequently agreed upon; this standard specifies three levels of sound insulation, each offering a higher standard of quality. Level 2 is the most commonly used. KAISER sound insulation boxes reliably meet these requirements in both drywall and solid walls, without compromising the wall’s function following electrical installation.
  • A comparison of KAISER sound insulation systems.

Innovative product solutions for sound insulation in electrical installations: continuously expanded since 2010, the range of sound insulation boxes offers suitable solutions for both drywall and solid-wall construction. There is a suitable variant for every desired level of comfort and every requirement for quiet, regardless of the level of sound insulation required.
  • Sound insulation classes

DEGA Recommendation 103 of the German Acoustics Society defines seven sound insulation classes to classify residential units according to their sound insulation quality. They provide a simple decision-making criterion and enable a clear assessment of the planned and structural acoustic quality of buildings. The criteria are coordinated with one another and are based on perceptibility.

Products for cavity walls

  • sound insulation box 68

    The basics of sound insulation.
The ‘Schallschutz 68’ devices and one-gang junction boxes ensure the wall’s sound insulation thanks to their solid box body combined with the sound-absorbing surface on the base of the box. Even during opposing installations, the wall’s sound insulation function remains fully intact. The ease with which they can be opened to accommodate electric cables and conduits, together with the 68 mm installation opening, enables quick installation and straightforward retrofitting in existing electrical installations.

    • Maintains the wall’s sound insulation function up to 69 dB
    • Retrofitting possible
    • For installation openings Ø 68 mm
    • For installation directly opposing the one opposite
    • Easy feed-through for electric cables up to Ø 11.5 mm and conduits up to Ø 25 mm
  • Electronics Box Sound Insulation 68 Flex

    Additional space for electronic components.
The new electronics box Sound Insulation 68 Flex, with its flexible tunnel, creates additional space for electronic components, cable reserves and terminals. Furthermore, the solid box body, in combination with the sound-absorbing surface, ensures the wall’s sound insulation. Even when installed directly opposing another unit, the wall’s sound insulation function remains fully intact. The toolless access for electric cables and conduits, as well as the 68 mm installation opening, enables quick installation and easy retrofitting in existing electrical installations.

    • Maintains the wall’s sound insulation function up to a maximum of 68 dB
    • Retrofitting possible
    • For installation openings Ø 68 mm
    • For installation directly opposing the one opposite
    • Toolless insertion for electric cables up to Ø 11.5 mm and conduits up to Ø 25 mm
  • Soundproofing electronics box

    Plenty of space.
The sound-insulated electronics box is designed for use in walls with heightened sound insulation requirements. It maintains the wall’s sound insulation function whilst providing ample installation space for electronic switch devices, communication outlets, electric cables and terminals. The electronics box accommodates electric cables and installation conduits up to Ø 25 mm.

    • Maintains the wall’s enhanced sound insulation function up to 78 dB
    • Easy creation of the installation opening with 2 x Ø 74 mm
    • Retrofitting possible
    • Can also be used as a double box
    • Extra-large terminal compartment for communications and network technology
    • Additional space for electronic components (e.g. KNX actuators or relays)

The soundproof electronics box can be easily combined with the soundproof one-gang junction box. The wire entry is cut to exact size using the universal opening cutter. An optional separator allows different voltage types to be housed within a single housing.

Products for solid walls

  • Flush-mounting soundproof one-gang junction box

    Sound insulation in solid walls.
The innovative sound-insulated one-gang junction box for flush-mounting ensures that sound insulation requirements in solid-core walls are met. The solid box body, with its additional sound insulation sheathing, absorbs and reflects sound, thereby preventing disturbance to neighbouring rooms and maintaining sound insulation as if no installation boxes were present.

    • Maintains the wall’s sound insulation function up to 56 dB
    • Installation in combinations of up to 5 sockets
    • Opposing installation also possible
    • Adjustable combination connection piece for Ø 20 mm / Ø 25 mm
    • Flexible for screw and expanding claw fixing of devices
    • Can also be used as a junction box with the sound insulation cover

The flush-mounting sound insulation box offers 6 entry points for conduits up to Ø 25 mm and electric cables up to Ø 11.5 mm. The sound insulation box is simply installed in an Ø 82 mm wall opening, just like a standard flush-mounting box. The exact conduit and cable entry is achieved using the universal opening cutter.
Plaster or quick cement can be used for fixing. The combination distance of 71 mm, as well as the soundproof and fully insulated through-wiring, is ensured by the union joint.
