KAISERmarine - Solutions for ship and cabin building

In shipbuilding, fire protection plays a very important role. Fire compartments are divided by walls and ceilings of protection classes B0 or B15, which ensure that emergency routes are not blocked by smoke and fire in the event of a fire.

In order to carry out installations within these walls and ceilings, specially certified fire protection products featuring AFS technology must be used; these have been manufactured and continuously developed by KAISER for many years.

The fast-acting fire-retardant coating in boxes, housings and bulkheads for use in B15 walls and ceilings reacts immediately and reliably foams up the installation opening in the event of a fire.
Thanks to this technology, KAISER products have been ensuring greater safety in civil engineering since 2006 and in shipbuilding since 2010.

Quality and safety are top priorities at KAISER. Our quality assurance system is certified, amongst other things, in accordance with Module D of Directive 2014/90/EU by BG Verkehr – the Ship Safety Department. Furthermore, our fire protection solutions for shipbuilding hold a MED Module B approval from the classification society DNV.

This means our products meet the high standards of international shipping and stand for proven safety and reliability. The relevant certificates and approvals can be viewed and downloaded online for each product at any time.

In addition to fire protection, sound insulation also plays a crucial role – particularly on passenger ships – in ensuring comfort and tranquillity on board. That is why all our B15 fire protection solutions also feature certified sound insulation properties.

For wall constructions without fire protection requirements, we also offer special KAISER sound insulation solutions. These ensure an effective reduction in noise transmission and thus contribute to a pleasant and quiet environment on board.

To ensure a standardised and twist-proof installation in sandwich panels, numerous products from our shipbuilding portfolio are equipped with a special fastening technology. This enables the secure and stable mounting of the boxes even with very thin cladding thicknesses of just 0.2 mm.

Solutions for installation in B0 / B15 walls

Safe, versatile and certified solutions for fire protection in shipbuilding

The safety of crew and passengers plays a central role in shipbuilding, as in many other sectors. Years ago, with the HWD B15, we developed unique fire protection boxes for insertion in ship hulls, which, based on a simple installation scheme, enable error-free and safe electrical installation in walls of protection class B15.

Our B15 PROTECT® solutions offer further products for this application area, covering an additional segment. All product solutions are equipped with the tried-and-tested KAISER AFS technology and are DNV-certified.

Switch series frequently used in shipbuilding with a screw-to-screw spacing of 83.5 mm – such as the 3-module IT standard or the US standard – are securely housed here within partition walls and fire protection walls of protection classes B0 or B15, ensuring that the required fire protection class is maintained.
  • B15 PROTECT® Electric Cable and Multiple Bulkheads

Sealing of fire protection walls is required whenever electric cables are routed through walls with a specific protection class. To maintain the protection class – such as B15 – the opening must be professionally sealed off to prevent the spread of fire and smoke and to ensure room separation.

The B15 PROTECT® series cable seal is designed to provide fire-resistant sealing of feed-throughs in sandwich panels with protection class B15. The certified sealing system is quick and easy to install and, thanks to its separable design, can also be fitted around the electric cable retrospectively. Like all products in the B15 PROTECT® series, the cable penetration sealing system achieves not only the wall’s fire resistance rating but also its sound insulation rating.

Solutions for installation in B0 & B15 ceilings

  • B15 PROTECT® Electric Cable and Multiple Bulkheads

Whenever electric cables are routed through fire protection ceilings, the resulting openings must be professionally sealed off to achieve the required protection class – e.g. B15. This is the only way to prevent the spread of fire and smoke and to ensure the necessary room separation. The B15 PROTECT® series cable seal enables the rapid and safe fire protection sealing of wire feed-throughs in B15 sandwich panels. Thanks to its separable design, the certified system can also be retrofitted around electric cables that have already been laid – ideal, for example, for the simple sealing of feed lines to smoke detectors.
  • B15 PROTECT® range of junction boxes

Reliable fire protection solutions are required for the installation of motion detectors, Wi-Fi access points or other flush-mounted devices in B0 and B15 ceilings. The B15 PROTECT® cavity wall devices and one-gang junction boxes have been specially developed for these partition surfaces. In the event of a fire, the integrated fire-retardant coating is activated immediately, intumesces when exposed to heat and securely seals the installation opening. This ensures that the ceiling’s fire and smoke protection is maintained without the need for additional measures such as metal enclosures.

Pluggable electrical installations

A pluggable future

Simple, fast, safe and easy to plan

Often, there is only a tight timeframe available for electrical installation, which must also be shared with other trades. Particularly when it comes to building efficiently and on schedule, prefabricated components and systems are in demand as a solution for planning and installation. In such cases, the pre-assembly of plug-in sub-assemblies is ideal; these then only need to be plugged together and secured at the shipyard or during cabin production. In this way, time-consuming and costly electrical installation can be optimised economically through prefabricated, plug-in systems.

The specialist planner or electrician plans the installation using modular components and electric cables that have been individually prefabricated in their own workshop or by the manufacturer. During cabin production, these simply need to be plugged together in accordance with the specified plans for commissioning. This enables time savings of up to 70 per cent. At the same time, a plug-in installation enhances the safety, reliability and clarity of the sub-assemblies.
